Community Development featuring Enrich
Program: Empowering Maijpara Union
Building resilient communities through collective action, local institutions,
and inclusive social development.
Overview of the Enrich Program
Since 2014, with financial support from the Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF), the Enrich Program, implemented by ADI in Maijpara Union and Sadar Upazila of Habkhali in Norail District, has aimed to eradicate poverty sustainably while enhancing the wealth and capabilities of poor families. The program focuses on health, education, credit, and social development, serving 4,972 households with a population of 21,927 in Maijpara Union. Across the Norail region, 13 adolescent unions cover 74,583 households and a population of 297,068, managed by 30 officials under designated focal persons.
The ENRICH Project is an integrated, community-based poverty eradication program supported by the Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) and implemented by ADI since 2014, combining health, education, financial inclusion (credit), and social development interventions to sustainably improve the well-being, resilience, and economic capacity of poor and vulnerable households in Maijpara Union and the wider Norail region.
Household Inspections: Nine health visitors in Maijpara Union visit 25 families daily, covering all households monthly. They collect data on pregnancy, obstetrics, lactating mothers, diseases (e.g., cancer, tuberculosis), sanitation, and housing conditions, ensuring adherence to health protocols.
Health Service Card: For 100 BDT, families receive a one-year health card, granting access to ADI-associated health workers, government medical officers,
and specialist consultations. The card is renewable annually for the same fee.
Uthan Boithok (Court-yard Meetings): Health visitors conduct weekly awareness campaigns (four per month) on child nutrition, maternal health, safe drinking water, immunization, hygiene, and disease prevention.
Static and Satellite Clinics: A daily static clinic operates from 2 to 5 PM at the Maijpara Enrich office, offering treatments for malnutrition, diabetes, and common illnesses. Two monthly satellite clinics provide essential care with an MBBS doctor available weekly.
Free Health and Optometry Camps: Quarterly free health camps offer expert consultations based on household survey results. Free optometry camps provide cataract operations, spectacles, and medications for individuals over 60, with transportation costs covered by the organization.
Education Development Program
To address the lack of access to quality education, 18 education support centers across 9 wards in Maijpara Union serve 473 children from pre-primary to 2nd grade. These centers offer subject-specific instruction, life skills, and extracurricular activities like dancing, singing, and drawing. Daily classes (except Fridays and holidays) run from 3 to 5 PM, supported by 18 teachers and parent-teacher meetings.
Adolescent Program
The Adolescent Activities Program equips youth aged 9 to 17 with education, social awareness, and leadership skills across 14 unions in Norail Sadar Upazila. Organized into 270-member clubs (9 adolescents per club, 2 clubs per union), the program offers training in health awareness, soft skills, and leadership. Annually, 14 adolescents (one per union) are awarded Mentor titles.
Club Formation: Nine ward-based and one union-based youth groups in Maijpara Union target individuals aged 18 to 30, focusing on social responsibility, confidence, and community issues like child rights, disaster management, and tree planting.
Training and Events: Youth receive training in leadership, entrepreneurship, and disaster management, including a two-day “Shopno Amar Uddogta Hobo” workshop. Annual sports, cultural events, and National Youth Day (November 1) are observed, with awards for outstanding contributions.
Livelihood Improvement Program
Targeting marginalized communities, this program promotes health, economic stability, and social integration in Maijpara Union. Nine ward-based, one union-based, and one upazila-level elderly clubs serve individuals over 60, conducting awareness programs, supporting education centers, and organizing annual sports, cultural events, and National Elderly Day (October 1). Five elderly individuals and five volunteers are awarded annually. Funded by PKSF, the Enrich Program continues to transform lives in Maijpara Union and beyond, fostering sustainable development and empowerment.
